C4 shifting problems

I have '74 Bronco, 302 with a C4 automatic transmission and it will not shift into 3rd. The upshifts and downshifts between 1st and 2nd work perfectly, but it will never go into 3rd. Another problem, is that when you put it into reverse it slams into gear a lot harder than I would think it should.

Also...when I first put the truck into reverse or drive the engine tries to die (and sometimes does). After it's in gear for a few seconds the idle speed goes back up and the everything is fine.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

C4 shifting problems

once my mustang did the same thing. I found a vacum hose from the intake to the tranny was disconnected. I just put it back on and all was perfect. good luck
