Code 603 keeps showing up, even after I clear codes and start the motor back up and run for awhile. Been having trouble with the truck starting, new glow plugs were installed, GPR working. At 45 degrees out today, truck started but surged quite abit. Went to leave and there wasn't much response from the throttle for a block or so(set to stock). I have Superchip and have changed settings many times but as of late this 603 code has been showing up(maybe since I had the new glow plugs installed). Mid 20's I better plug it in.
I believe you are describing what I call the "cold morning sponge pedal" that several on here are troubleshooting. We have not been able to come up with a definite cause but it seems to be tied to Exhaust backpressure valve not opening when it should. A couple of things to check is make sure the accuator rod is not sticking and the tube running from the front of the pass side exhaust manifold to the exhaust backpressure sensor on the front of the engine is not clogged with soot as well as the sensor.
Alan, I do have codes 470 & 478 showing, but they been there for a coupe years. I did clean the tube and sensor, codes still returned. Were is the valve that the sensor actuates? I don't know if it is sticking. Thanks
between the turbo and the exhaust downpipe you can see a small lever on the bottom.
There are several factors that seem to be tied into this problem but we have not been able to find a single solution for the sponge pedal.
Try unpluging the white connector on the turbo pedistal under the turbine housing of the turbo. That is the electrical connector that enables the EBPV to operate. I also had problems with my EBPV closing after I pulled out of my driveway, and cleaning the sensor tube didn't work. If that works, you can leave it unplugged like I have. In fact, I even went so far as to disable the EBP sensor so I never have to worry about it again.
