I took out my chip Saturday to ship it to Jody for BTS tranny programming. So I have been running around in stock. I have my old Bully Dog Programmer that will read codes and i keep getting the 475 and 603 code. I know the 475 is okay and from the EBPV unhooked, but I clear the codes and eventually get the 603 code again. Why?
I know it is okay to have w/ a chip, or when the batteries are unhooked, but I have neither now.
Also, the truck seems to run like crap! It will not accelerate at all, especially while towing my enclosed trailer around town. I can be going 35mph, and at times put the pedal to the floor and truck will not move/downshift/accelerate? I know it's not the pedal assem. as it is new.
So why am I getting the 603 code w/ no chip? It does not immediately show up after clearing codes, but after a day of towing it is back? What does this code really mean when not conscerning a chip or the batteries?? Thanks for any help!
That doesn't make much sense at all. Have you called Jody? Since he knows the computer systems on these trucks pretty well, he may be able to offer you some advice.
P0603 code? Internal Control Module KAM Error. Something is killing the memory in your PCM. Might want to consider getting another one from Jody along with that chip reprogram.
I have a 2002 and keep getting the 603 code. I use a tunner and know that it throws the code, It will clear it's self as it is a time sensitive code. I run into the problem where the code is thrown and I get crappy fuel mileage and turns a bit sluggish. I know when the code is thrown as I run my lie o meter in metric, it jumps back to imperial. This usually happens when I start the truck, let the glow plugs heat up and cranker over, then look up once the accessories turn back on and pow! back to imperial readings! If I get anywhere with this I will post an answer

If you have had your batteries disconnected or replaced them recently then you can get this code? The coded may still be in your PCM from when you had the chip on. By chance could it still have the Bullydog program in it or did you return the PCM back to stock when you got the chip?

Diane,
I have not disconnected the batteries and the Bully Dog program is not installed (has not been ever since I found you guys!) You know me, as I just talked to you yesterday (Wed) to see if Jody had retunned my chip before he left. You had allready shipped it back via air on its way to Cincinnati! Thanks!
I just got the chip back tonight, and wonder can I run the chip before I have the BTS installed on Monday, even though it is programmed for the BTS?
I would like to figure out this problem before I start running the chip though.
Would a new PCM fix the problem for sure? How much are they?
Thanks for the help Diane! Nice to see you posting here on FTE!
UPDATE: I think I am having a problem with the fuses, # 14 and 15. What has happened twice today is that I will be driving and all the sudden I hear a click (like an electrical click/resistor etc..) and then the instrument dinger or beeper will beep and show dash lights like it does when you first start the truck. I also turned my overhead console to metric to see if the computer does restart, and after the dinging noise stops the console goes to standard mpg readings.
The #14 and 15 fuses have a problem. When I even barely touch one, they make a click noise and make the dome lights go out (when the door is open) and they make the radio turn on and off, and they overhead console powers off/on. Almost like everything starts back up after for the first time when I touch theses fuses. I can even beat on the dash to make them "rattle" and it causes same problems.
What could be the problem with these fuses? I replaced both with no fix. It is almost like they are grounding out or something? I almost think the #14 is not a problem, but that it is just so close to the 15 that I am "moving" the 15 somehow by moving the 14. Strange thing is, moving/touching the 16 fuse does not cause problems.
Of course, after all this I do get a code 603! While driving, and this happens, the truck does not seem to be affected, however I was going less than 20mph both times. All of this has arrisen since I removed my chip on Saturday! Never a problem before. Please help as I am stumped!! Thanks!
Are you planning on driving to AK for that tranny or is it being delivered?
I am driving there. Going to have ITP reg return fuel system installed, along w/ Cale's custom in-tank and prepump work, including running dual high flow fuel pumps ( to feed some mean injectors soon!).
Leaving Sunday driving 10 hours, having work done and leaving Monday evening and going to work 7:30 am Tuesday morning! Grass is growing like wildfire with all this rain!!
Edit: BTW, Thanks Diane for the PM. I sent you one back. I appreciate your help!

I was just curious. I'd be concerned about the fuse panel. I would thing you have a short in the harness/pin area or something along those lines. I hope someone comes along with the poobah info or you find it.
I thought you might be driving nearby, but see now after looking at a map that you will likely stay north. I wouldn't be much help anyway as I'm back on shift again.
