Decided to finally put on a hitch on my 94 f150 and quit using my tow bumper, even though it has done well. I would like to keep my spare tire where it is at...are there any reasonably priced hitches (around 100 or so) that will fit with my spare under the bed(stock location)? I would ask about brakes...but ill do some searchin and wait till i get the hitch. Any help would be appreciated.
Ok thanks for the reply. good idea but i couldnt find any at the yards around me, but one of the guys did try selling me trailer brake setup lol . Anyways i did what i could on the phone....called a uhaul place, 190 for 5000lb hitch installed. Worth it? Or should i just buy my own and hassle with drillin the holes?
Check with some of your local RV suppliers. Quite often they will have the Class III hitch platforms for just under $100. As to mounting the hitch your self or having someone elso do it, depends on your abilities, ambition, and time.
Sam's Club has had bolt on hitches for around $100 in the past. I don't know if they still stock them. Also chech with Tractor Supply, or other farm supply stores in your area. There is a chance that if you are close to a Manards that they may carry weight dist. hitches.
JC Whitney has a good price on them. AS far as the install I think on the F150 the holes are there it's just a matter of bolting it on. You can go to the Reese and Draw Tite web site and look at the install instructions and see if it's a job you want to tackle.
Thanks for the answers guys, much appreciated. Ill check with Sams and TSC, they are both reasonably close. About the RV supplier, im not aware of any in my area, but ill check into it. Thanks again, and ill let you guys know what i do in a couple weeks.
The hitches at Uhaul are normally built by Reese or Valley and most require no drilling. They are designed to fit a specific vehicle instead of being universal like the ones Sams or JC Whitney sell. I have purchased from Uhaul and installed my self in about an hour.
I bought mine at TSC. They offer Valley hitches. I bought the class IV/V hitch for about 150 bucks. It comes with a drop bracket for the spare tire carrier. But I have to replace the rear section of the frame before I can put it on.
