Hitch Question

I recently bought a class 4 hitch for my rig. On the box it said that it would fit a 150,250,350, which I verified with the hitch company that the holes are the same for each. The problem I have is that the flanges for the drop tube are at the inside of the frame rails rather than the outside like the Ford factory hitch for the S.D. Plus this hitch is tapered from front to back which makes the problem worse toward the receiver. I can’t get my spare between the flanges on this hitch since I went to 285's. For those with the factory hitch, will a 285 fit between their flanges?? I can return this hitch for a factory one but will have to wait 2 months for it. I'm not in a hurry, especially since I don’t own a trailer.
