Hi Guys,
The speedometer on my 93 F250 quit working. The needle doesn't move and the digital odometer isn't showing anything. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot it?
Thanks
Check the vss is the rear diff, run codes on the computer, the wires that run to it etc. Also start checking fueses. If the computer cant communicate with the vss then it will throw a code. Depending on what the cost of the sensor is, and everything else is ok, change it. If that doesnt help then get a guage set from a wrecker and change that. The PSOM rairly fails, and is fairly exspensive. Other than that you have no other points in the system to check, but try www.fordfuelinjection.com and go under sensors and it will tell you about your vss. It is the same vss for the diesel to the gas, so this site will work for you. good luck
I have a 92 F-150 with the same problem I replace the speed sensor/abs (that's what ford said it is) on rear diff. It was only $28 worked great for 3 days and now doesn't work again what is the vss. I have already replaced my computer at $220.
Good luck,
Kallie

The VSS and the speed sensor/abs are the same part.
The computer has nothing to do with the speedometer.
The computer may give a code if does not get the speed information from the PSOM.
If your odometer is not showing anything, as in dead (blank), then I would begin checking fuses & wiring. That is part of the PSOM and is what converts the signals from the VSS into odometer and speedometer readings as well as informing the ECU how fast you are going. If the wiring and voltages check out ok, then go for another PSOM. Replacement procedure can be found in Tech Info.
