I Just Purchased A 5 Inch Exhaust And I Am Going To Install It This Weekend.i Was Wondering If Anybody Had Any Tips Or Tricks I Should Use.any Help Would Be Great.i Also Just Read On Another Post That Someone Said 5 Inch Is Overkill.is That True?
Have help. Other then that its pretty easy.Five inch is more then you need but if you want good sound its perfect. Congradulations you will love it. Good luck
Sure 5" exhaust is overkill. Do you really NEED a 7.3L engine too? Compensation factor, "Hey look at my sewer pipe snaking through the bottom of my truck" kind of deal.
The night before, spray the clamp that mates the outlet of the turbo and the start of the exhaust with Gibbs or PB Blaster or something. Then get a nice metal sawzall blade that is at least 4" when stroked, as a normal blade (i found out) is a tad too short and will come through and poke the inside of the pipe on the inward stroke. Anyway, cut the exhaust as soon as it comes down out of the engine bay, in front of the transmission cross member. Then cut it in manageable lengths after that. Removal is alot easier.
Then snake the new downpipe up into the place where the stock one was. Using a bungee cord, hold the pipe near it's place with the cord hooked between two framerails, and then crawl up top and run the clamp on the downpipe flange. Do not tighten it, just make it so it will not fall. Then assemble the pieces one after another. If you don't have a Long bed crewcab, then you will need to cut the midpipe to fit your wheelbase. Do not tighten any of the clamps until the whole system is good and not touching anything. Then begin to tighten from the downpipe rearward. Recheck the clamps after a week or so.
Hey I Have One More Question.i Saw The Answer On Another Post And I Can Not Find It.my New Exhaust Is From Mko Diesel Performance.mark.which Way Should The Muffler Face To Cut Down On Drone.before You Say It I Know I Should Straight Pipe It.i Am Baby Stepping.....for Now
I believe folks have said that positioning it so that the dimples catch the exhaust makes for more drone. Positioning it so the exhaust flows over the smooth side of the dimples makes for less.
PS - just curious, why do you capitalize each word of your post? Seems Like A Lot Of Work!
1. The stock system can be removed without cutting but you have to jack and lift and remove tranny crossmember etc. Not too bad if you have the tools but not really worth it because mine is still sitting out back inder the pool deck. Let me know if you want to go that route. On a positive note, with the truck on 2 ramps (passenger side), the new install is that much easier.
2. Kris is a clever/crafty fella. The bungee cords can work on the DP install but it is sooo much easier having another person underneath moving it like you direct IOT get that clamp on at the turbo flange. Aside from that, one man job. A 2-3 beer operation.

I either drink to fast or work to slow..............hmm maybe both I cant remember
You probably don't. It was outside, half of stock system allready removed, 27*F with wind chill in the teens when I did mine. Those tin soldiers were not warming me up one bit.
