hey guys, new to the site
my 1989 ranger 2.9 is running rough half the time along with a jerky ride
any ideas on this, i sprayed carb cleaner in the iac and replace the fuel filter.
thanks for the link, it doesnt say where it is, on my f150 it was in the air filter housing
i beginning to think my 89 model might not have an maf sensor
I used to have a '90 Ranger with the 2.9L. It didn't have a MAF, but rather a MAP sensor. The computer used manifold air pressure instead of mass air flow for it's air/fuel calculation. I'm guessing yours is the same. On mine, the MAP sensor was located half in, half out of the firewall just a little toward the passenger side of centerline of the truck. Use the info on this forum, or off the internet to pull codes using the KOEO and the KOER tests. It might give you an idea of whats going on. I currently have a 94 Ranger with the 4.0L engine and it was doing the same thing you describe with no check engine light. Both tests mentioned showed the TPS sensor bad. I'm not saying yours is bad too, but I do suggest that you run the codes and post them here if you have trouble understanding what they mean.
ok, the problem has disappeared after going to autozone and having a code scanner try and pull a code , hooked up scanner turned key on/off a couple times, no codes appeared. drove truck home and noticed problem gone and also my gas gauge now works too! also i put some Bars radiator stop leak in and seems to have fixed a pretty bad radiator leak. today has been a good day, amen.
