Toyman, so what prep do you do to store them. Mine is used for towing my 5'ver and I might put 500 miles on it between now and spring. It won't be in a barn, but it will sit for a couple weeks at a time.

I put Seafoam additive in the oil, the white bottle of diesel performance in the fuel and drove the truck about 20 miles. I will jack the truck up and put it on jacks, so the tires don't get flat spots (Mickey Thompson ATZ). Expensive tires that I don't want to buy for a while. With the truck off the ground I can turn the tires every now and then to circulate the gear lube in the axles, keeping the bearings and the ring and pinion from rusting.

Should be good to go for the winter months.

SOunds good... but adding "seafoam" to the oil is not a good thing. These motors will foam and the additive will force the oil to areate (sp) and the injectors will miss-fire. Just use a diesel rated motor oil of your choice... which is the best thing to do.

At the "bob is the oil guy" website, they have a mini movie/photos of what happens when oil additives are added and throw off the delicate balance of the additves already in the oil (no matter the brand).

Oh well... sounds too late now... but I would drain it out in the spring!!!!

I was thinking about the storage/low use situation but from the other side of the coin. I ride my '05 Dyna Sport 9-10 months out of the year. The truck is for the winter when there's a chance of frost, black ice, or snow on the roads or it's just plain too cold to ride the bike(below 30F). I got the bike at the end of last July and have 21K on it now. The reason I ride it all the lime is that #1) I love to ride and #2) I get about 45 MPG with it and have a 40 mile trip each way to work and back.

I had pictured my truck not getting used for months on end during the March-November period. I guess I will be taking it to work at least every other week, and thinking even more about getting an auto-luber system to pump up oil pressure before even turning the key. Some of these units also have control modules that will run the auto-luber pump after shut down for better cool down of the turbo bearings. This is one of the "reliability" upgrades that I was thinking about. Coupled with a chip or tuner(after the 100K point) that has the cool down function, idling the engine for either a preset time or EGT temp set point, it should help keep things from wearing out prematurely. At least I hope it will if I end up doing those mods.
