I am new to this site but see that all of you really do your bst to help each other. I have a 97 250 power stroke. 125k, I have been having problems with it stallin g as if someone had turned the key off. I replaced the cps and the problem seems to have gotten worse. Now it acts up every day. The check engine light come on but only until I restart the truck. I do have an after market chip. I dont know where to look next. Any help would be great.
maybe it's the cam sensor, I had the same problem, stalling, engine light coming on, and a friend plugged in the diagnostic computer, and it came up as a cam sensor being toast...it was about 150 bucks canadian to replace and it was very easy to reinstall, lemme know if you have any more questions about it or how to replace it
Check the wiring for the CPS and the connector. Several poeple have found bad connectors and/or wiring. Also find someone that can pull your codes and see what is going on and let us know.

Reason: addition
If your chip plugs in to the computer behind the e brake pu ll the three nuts pull the chip off and drive it for a couple of days, the change in the weather caused my chip to either go bad, or develope a bad connection I am not sure which but I am currently trouble shooting the exact same problem. I pulled the chip drove it for three days with no problems reconnected the chip and the problem is back, I initially was trying to work the CPS side but go no codes that was when I discovered it was the chip, again I am not sure if it is a connection or faulty chip. Also when I diconnected the chip I just let it hang near the opening, there is no need to pull the computer out just pull the parking brake pull the chip off reinstall the brake and drive. Oh yeah you will also be reminded how much HP the chip brings to the table. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the input. I have already replaced the cam sensor with on oem from ford. That is when the probldem statrted getting worse. I am going to try and unplug the chip tomorrow and se what happens.
Could be bad valve cover wiring harnessess as well. My truck was doing what you are describing and it had melted wiring harnessess under the valve cover causing shorts. This is a very typical problem with these motors.
I would pull the chip, pull the battery cables (both) let sit overnight to clear any codes, then rehook the battery without the chip and try and see what happens. When diagnosing stuff like this it is best to eliminate as much non-stock electrical stuff as possible.
Yeah, that just may be the best thing to do, resetting everything...do have access or know anyone who has a diagnostic computer to check things out...they are so handy, the guy just plugged it in right under my dash and found out right away what was going on.
I took the truck to my mechanic today. He is going to hook the scanner uo while he drives it for the next couple of days to see if he can get any codes when it stall on him. I also thought about the wirring harness. I am just waiting to see if he come up with anything. Does anyone know where I can find a stock oem chip to replace my after market????
It was indeed the injectors that quit working due to the fact the harness to them was shorting out....replaced harness end of problem.
cool I will keep that in mind, if it happened once it is going to happen again. Also I mentioned earlier my chip was the problem with my stalling condition, I re cleaned the connections with alcohol a tooth brush and a cue tip and have not had the problem since it has been three days I hope that is it. That would be a great christmas present.
