I'm looking into buying a e-350 with a power stroke and I have found 2 97 and 00 is there a big difference between these engines and what are they ? Which gets better fuel economy?
The main difference between the 94-97 PSDs and the 99-03 PSDs are the injectors and turbo. The newer engines have bigger injectors and bigger turbos, and hence a bit more power when stock.
yes, you will find that the newer truck has more power, and it will be quieter. I find it that most of the older body style trucks, the 97... it will get better mileage, due to having less power, smaller injectors which are single-shot.
Hey strokin_it7.3 Im not sure if it was just my truck but i just sold a 1996 f250 and with a afe air filter it got best 13-14mpg's never more than 14 though. My 2002 f350 i get 14-15 stock and a best of 17. Maybe it was something i missed but i had it for a while and the mileage was consistant. And both were auto's the gearing may have been different and the 2002 is definitely more quiet. Not sure if this helps.
I'm not sure about that... with the F-series, at least, there were no 1998 model diesels, as they were making the switch to the Super Duty style and started this as the 99 models (old body style stopped in 97).
With the vans, I don't know if this is the case... I doubt it, because there wasn't any similar sort of body changeover that I'm aware of.
So, I'd wager that it has the older 94-97 style PSD, as the 99 PSD wouldn't have been in use yet. You might try posting this in the E-series forum section, and see what folks have to say in there.
