I did the harpoon mod and have a thing to add to the list. When you drop the tank explain how to get the fuel lines off. Push the colored tab on the quick disconnect and pull them off. Trying to put the ring on is dam near impossible with the lines attached. Removing the lines and heating up the ring in hot water is the hot ticket Now that I have taken the lines off am I going to have to do anything special to to get the air out before I start it?
1. You don't have to remove the fuel lines unless you're going the "heat up the rings" way. 2. MobeyDick. You must have done something wrong. To say it changed nothing is a completely asinine statement. Physics says it changes something and plenty of us say it changed something. I guess we must be liars. For one, "It was a waste of money" tells us a lot about you. You had someone do it. Those of us who took the time to do it ourselves know a couple of things. 1. It costs nothing but time. 2. It saves time in the long run so number one becomes a moot point.
Opinions vary. Sorry it didn't work out for you.
Something else I noticed, you have an 01 7.3L. It's a different animal than those of us with the 6.0. Next time, before you waste your money paying someone to do something, do your research first.

I would not recommend it, it changed nothing!! It was a waste of money to have it done!!
How much money did you spend dropping the tank? Maybe the cost of the PVC cutter but I can't imagine what else you spent money on doing this mod??? It is a time taker but nothing else . . .
Actually sgthawkusmc, if you read the rest of his sig...he has a couple of 6.0s. To your point though. This is the only negative I have ever read about harpooning...other than the time involved.
KW. You're right about reading the rest of his sig. One of two things happened, I skimmed and only caught the first part or two, he added it to his sig later. I'd be curious when it got added. Either way, I went off a little and probably didn't need to. Bad day....

Well, I went and filled it up to see if the tank leaked any more. No leaks. I stop at the first click not knowing if it was going to leak. Next time I will top it off.

The Vent tube protrudes into the Fuel tank about 2.5/2.75"s WE cut off 2"s. That's a close as WE could cut it. It does make it where 1 more gallon will go into the tank before the pump shuts off. So I have to slowly put in 2.5 Gallons. That takes about an extra 3 minutes instead of 4 minutes. Not a big savings of time. WE did this when I had the Regulated Return installed!! WE took off the bed to do the jobs!! Yes, I paid someone to do most of it, I did help. I can afford (See Sig.) to keep from smelling of Diesel. I did do the Research.
The Sigs. been like that for some time. That’s not all of my trucks it’s all I can put in the Sig. I have a Shelby Cobra GT 500 convertible, Blue over White ordered also)
BTW: The way you answer tells us a lot about you also.
One of the reasons it may not have worked as well for me is I fill up at Flying J. Each pump is different some pump faster then others. Some will hardly let you slowly add fuel. Normally I use a pump that pumps slowly and allows you to add fuel slowly. So, more fuel goes into the tank before it shuts off. I normally put 40/41 gallons in it. Saturday I put 41.677 gallons in it!! 611.4 miles on that fill-up.

I have to ask if this is only benefits on the bigger tanks? I have the 29 gallon and it always seems to fill up pretty much to the top each time on the pump auto click off. I can manage only another maybe 1.5 after the click off.
I have the 29 gal tank and after the auto shutoff of the pump i can get an additional 4 gal in the tank by nursing the pump. Takes awhile. I'm researching bigger aftermarket tanks instead of the harpoon mod. Any thoughts on replacements? I'd like more range than the stock. In bed tanks look possible, too.
