harpooning problem

Did the harpoon mod today, only problem i ran into was getting that POS plastic nut started in the process of the fight i got a little rough with it. worried a little with the sender. started out with a 1/4 tank (too much) so got the wife to sit in there and tilted the tank to the rear and it went up to 1/2 okay seemed like it was working. finished tank bolt up started truck up drove 1 1/2 miles never came down from a little above 1/2. filled her up to the neck! real easy now!! but now im worried about the sender and why it didnt go back down. would it have taken more than a couple miles??? don't want to do this job again hoping!!!!! any input?? expierences???
put my mind at ease and tell me its the last time im going to see the inside of my fuel tank!!!!

The same reason that if you fill it with it running it dosen't register full until about 20 miles down the road. The fuel gauge isn't live. It takes a sample of the fuel level every so often (20 second intervals I think) and displays an average on the gauge.

Upon restarting it idled for maybe 5 minutes and another 5 minute trip to the gas station it didnt go back down to 1/4 i'm probably just being paranoid because the sender/pickup only goes in 1 way and i dont think i bent the sender never got that rough with it . I just hate to let a job stand not finished and now with a full tank of fuel i'll have to wait a while and see if it drops below a 1/2 now i'm covered with diesel fuel because i found myself outside trying to siphon it out to see if the gauge goes down i should should call it a day and go to bed!!!!!! because i know it takes a while for the gauge to settle and i should have drove around a little before refueling urghhhhhh!!!!!

thanks for the reply cookie to probably another dumb question
