I used to guess where the road was sometimes as half of my driving was in the middle of the night.
I think this statement explains it all ...
I have great night vision. And with the factory tint on the rear windows in my SD, I have a hard time seeing when backing up in the dark. I can't imagine having that much tint on the side windows.
I don't even have to put my rear-view mirror on "night" position when there's vehicles behind me, that's how dark the factory tint is.
Two reasons, one for SAFETY, the other for the police to be able to see in.
When one of my friends was pulled over for tint, the officer actually told him the reason he pulled him over was because "there's no other reason for tint that dark except to hide something". It was done to hide his huge speaker/amp setup under the hatchback, ironically.
As to protecting the interior from the sun, the damage is caused by ultraviolet light (UV). Lots of UV protective coatings out there that do not block visible light (or not much).
I had to chuckle. Funny how a guy on his way to work gets stopped while the panhandler standing on the corner watching never gets checked. Could it be that you represent a more lucrative source of revenue? I have witnessed this while traveling and working coast to coast. As you pull your wagon down the road of life there are lots of people looking for a free ride.

That is such an ignorant statement; I don't even know where to begin...

We can make all the false analogies we want, it doesn't make them true.
The panhandler is an individual to be sympathized with.
The guy with 13% tint on his windows when the law says 50%, driving around a nice truck, putting OTHERS at risk when driving at night, well...
Like Aaron, I am in law enforcement (14 years). I have to agree with most of what he said in that attitude will determine what you leave a vehicle stop with, you make the choice. Having been into cars for more than thirty years I have naturally been on the receiving end of several cites, some very well deserved and others not. That being said my suggestion is to reveiw and know your areas vehicle code prior to making any modifications. If you know what the rules are you can make informed decisions. Life is full of choices, if you decide to skirt the rules and get caught don't blame anybody but yourself. Take responsibility for you actions or lack there of. Don't blame the cop for giving you the ticket, he is just doing what he is paid to due, we don't make the rules we just accepted a job that requires we enforce them.
You sound like a good guy and that is cool that you take pride in your truck but remember that when you do things to make it stand out it is not only the girls on the street that notice it is the truck guys and the COPS(most of us are into some type of motorsport and appreciate nice machines).
