What percentage should I use to tint over my existing rear tint. I plan on doing 50% on front two (ohio legal limit). I would then tint the rear sides and likely leaving the rear as is. What would you all recommend for a tint over the factory tint, was thinking 35% but should I go darker like 20%? The tint shop guy said he put 5% on his rears in a Suburban and one can't see a thing inside from the outside but that sounds to heavy duty for me. What have others done?

 

As far as I was aware , you have to remove the stock tint , then apply the new stuff....but i could be wrong.

 

The stock tint cannot be removed. It part of the glass.

Why are you tinting the rear? Just for looks?

 

Yeah it's just a little too bright in the back for the little ones, also want a little more privacy. The windows in my previous car (Honda Odyssey) were noticeably darker. The owner of the tint shop has 5% (limo tint) over his factory tint but that's WAY too dark for me. Was thinking more of a 35%. Just wondering if anyone else has done it.

I tinted over mine...It looks great! It looks like limo tint meaning you can't see in day or night. The guy who tinted them recommended it b/c he said it was easy and looks good. He was right.

 

Any idea what percentage it was? If it was limo tint (5%) over the factory tint it's gotta be dark. How is the driving at night? Did you do the rear window as well?

I tinted over my trucks windows to whatever the max legal is in Oregon. I did it to help the feeble a/c system on my super duty. It did help a little.

 

I also tinted over my factory tint with limo tint and it looks great, (except for the back).

 

My truck came with clear windows and I have applied 2 layers of 5% tint to them. It is great in the day because I can still see out perfectly, No one can see in and there is minimal light that gets in. As for night driving I can see anything with lights and I can see out in a well lightly parking lot, other than that at night I can't see a thing. Hope this helps.
