Bottom line is that you chose to break the law by tinting your truck to 15%. The tint laws where I live are 50% all around as well. I chose to have my Mustang tinted at 35% and I also chose to live with a ticket should I get one. The police busted you for your tint and you knew it was illegal. Deal with it. Grow up and accept responsibility for your actions.
Wow. Didnt think this thread would get so large. First of all the tint was on the truck when i purchases it used out of NC. The tint on the vehicle is 3M Scotchtint. The seller of the truck gave me the warranty cards from the tint job wich state they block 99% of the suns UV rays. I found no reason to change the tint since i havent been hasseled for months now with the truck. Where i work i run into alot of police officers who i had asked about tint laws and everything lse that i do to my truck to make sure it is legal. This is why my lift is only 6 inch and not the original 8 inch that i wanted. with that said numerous police officers mentioned that they like my truck and thaught about doing something lke that to their personal trucks, even the tint. The county i live in isnt some little down in VA like people might think. We are in the top 5 riches countys in the United States. There are plenty of new police officers getting out of the academy and eager to get some tickets under their belt with the starting salary at 45K a year. As of right now i have until Fed 21st which is my court date on my tint ticket to either take it off and re tint to legal limit or to pay the fine. Of course my mother who is in law enforcemnet would like me to take the tint off and not pay the fine. Well anyhow didnt mean for this thread to get out of hand. I was just venting after i got pulled over on the way to work.
knowing that when it was puchased i would have removed it right off. esp. with how new jersey is on any mods at all lately. take my word for this i put a mbrp dual outlet exhaust on mine. in 3 days it was on i got 3 tickets for loud exhaust in 3 different towns, back to the stock system.
Hah... 50%... Try NJ, you can't have ANYTHING on the front windows.

Same here in PA, i've been hastled too many times from small town cops to put any tint on my front windows anymore, with 3 kids i can't afford any more tickets. Plus here when you get a ticket for illeagal tine on your windows you get a summons to have the vehicle inspected by the state police within 10 days so they can make sure you had it removed.
in new jersey if the officer writes it they can make you go to a state inspection station and have whole car reinspected.or impound the vehicle ,tow it away where you will have to arrange for the towing shop to remove it before it's released back to you after you pay the tow and storage fees.
it's simply not worth it
It's my understanding, and I could be all wet here, that dark tint actually makes your in interior hotter than light tint by holding more heat from the sun.
BTW. In my younger days I had dark tint all around. I did find it to be a nuiance at times. Now that I'm an old coot the front windows are, from the factory, clear.
hey CAforddude this is a little off topic but I always thought that the best thing to do if you get pulled over is to put the interior light on and then both hands high on the wheel. Wait to be asked to get your registration out of the glove box. All sound good? I always had the idea that a cop never wants you to get out of the car enless you are asked. I figure opening the door like was mentioned earlier would raise anxiety as the cop might be expecting you to get out. Could you comment on this?
Excellent post, Aaron. I think it's our nature and indeed, fair to be angry any time we get a citation, but put the shoe on the other foot and find out it's the spode with blacked out windows that demolished your rear quarter panel in the parking lot and we're thankful for the rules.
When I get pulled over, (last time 4 years ago in the Jetta in Alaska, no ticket), I drop all the windows, so the officer can see every thing they want. I'm not quite sure what to do about the Female Lab in the back of the Crew, but I figure I'll warn the officer when he/she comes up by the bed. My windows are tinted for the dog, my truck being from CA is pretty dark, and me being old means I roll down the windows for backing and pulling out at dusk, when I've been close to killing cars without lights on.
i stomped it in 3rd gear in the cobra a few weekends ago.... 66 in a 40 was kinda nice to hear though that he could here me loud and clear from that distance though He didnt say anything about the tint on the back though...although its legal, i (think).

Good question that many people want the answer to. Here is what I tell my family and friends.
When the lights on behind you put your 4 way hazard flashers on. That lets the cops know that you know they are behind you and attempting to stop you. Pull over as soon as possible in a safe spot. That may not be immediately it may be 100 or 200 or 300 or whatever yards and that is why acknowledging the cops presence is important. When you pull over roll down your front two windows (If you have power windows and this is feasible) some cops like to approach on the passenger side depending on the situation. If you have manual windows do NOT lay down across your seat to roll down the passenger window. (Might end up with a gun in your ear). Turn your radio off. Grab onto the steering wheel and wait for the cop to approach your car. If you live in a state that allows CCW and you are CCW tell the officer that before you start reaching around. Most importantly just be polite. I am the first to acknowledge that getting a ticket sucks. The side of the road is not the place to fight the ticket, that is what courts are for.
Let a window tint go just tonight as it had been a present to the driver from his girlfriend for his birthday. I always give the standard admonition when I let people go on something. You are breaking the law by *****. You will probably continued to get pulled over for said violation. If you do not mind being pulled over then don't fix it. If you do not want to be pulled over correct it. Some other cop may choose to write you a ticket for it even though I am not.
