Remote Start Shut Down

Hi all!

First off, what a great site! I am a newbie 7.3 owner in a 2003 Excursion that came with a Code Alarm remote start which works fine except for one little issue.

After remote starting and idling for a few minutes the motor goes into it’s usual higher idle, however this causes the truck to shut off.

Has anyone else had this issue? I believe it might be something in the alarm that has to be re-programmed to allow for a broader allowable RPM range to be accepted.

In testing, it will shut off the same way if after started you just step on the throttle.

I’m pretty sure it is some kind of safety/theft device in the software.

Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, I can see this forum saving me tons by not going to the dealer for all I am reading here.

Thanks,

Paul

It is not a safety/security function as that code alarm is the unit that the factory uses and no one else has the same problem. Typically the security switch is the brake.

Who wire this system? Was it factory, maybe a tech with no diesel alarm experience did it.

Some else should have more to add to this.

It does sound like it may be some sort of rpm safety thing. I would read in your owners manual and see if it tells how to arm and disarm the alarm. I'm sure theres some trick to it!

Just a shot in the dark here, but maybe your shock sensor is activated and sensing movement and turning the truck off.
I had this problem on one of my cars, only difference is my alarm would sound when it happened.

Sounds exactly like the shock sensor. Turn down the sensitivity, there should be a small **** on the side of the unit, counter clockwise should do it.
