Using Oil Need Help Compression Test

I have a real problem. I brought a early 99 that had been sitting for about 6 months,it run a little rough from idle to about 1600 and had a little blue smoke until it got warm. The first little trip I took with it about 300 miles it used about 2 Qt. of oil, the next was about 400 miles and it started running better so I play with it a little to see what kind of power it had and I went through about 2 1/2 gal. of oil. There not much sign of oil under it.[ maybe turbo seals or ccv ]Yesterday I pull the IC out and it had quite alot of oil in it. Now that I have the IC piping out I am going to run a compression check on it. I need to know how to disable everything so I can spin it over or should I just use a remote starter switch. Any help on this or the oil probelm would be greatly appreiated. I have worked on alot bigger diesels [CAT & Cummins} from overhaul to tuneups but nothing elecrontric.

If you unplug the CPS mounted on the front of the engine at about the 10:00 position next to the crankshaft pulley, the engine will refuse to start. So it's a good way to disable it while performing the compression test.

Thank you. I have just found out what the problem is or part of it by reading the forum on here I took the top off the fuel filter and it is full of black fuel and you rud your finger across it, it feels about like engine oil. So i assume injector o-rings. Now I need information on removing the injectors and draining the passage to keeping the fuel & oil out of the cylinders. Also is there any trick to getting the valve cover and injector out on the pass. side

You have the newer superduty type truck body?
I have a 99.5 and the valve covers, gaskets, injectors are easier done than it looks.

That thread doesn't mention that the injectors are held down with one bolt and they come up out of the cylinder head with a little persuation provided by a ladyfoot prybar once the holddown is removed.
