It was a Ford thing. The ones I saw were 78's. They were short bed 4x4's. My brothers was the popular dark blue in those years. The graphics on his were light blue. There was also a Black base color with red grahpics. They were three of them around here. The ones I saw had roll bars in the bed and wagon wheels. I can't remember for sure the tire sizes. I remember seeing one in 4 Wheel and Off Road Magazine. It was Ford endorsed.
Dennis,
I think it was probably one of those "local deals" where FoMoCo licensed somebody to do custom work thru a dealer or dealers because doesn't show up in options or VIN S/N decoders. So it was bolt on or paint on like Tasca Ford in Rhode Island used to do. Some dealer options were pretty profound back in the day. . . .
I've never seen or heard of one either. But you never can tell what Ford was up to then. The 1968 Mustang California Special was called something else in Colorado, and something else again in Texas.
There were also several special Ford Explorer F100 packages offered in the 70's for CA buyers.
Hold up, Mil1ion, I wasn't disputing you. What I was saying that it wasn't a one truck deal. There were several done and they went through a local dealer, I was told. No, I am sure there wasn't an RPO but they were sharp trucks. I had a picture of the truck but we can't find it. If we do find it. I will share it.
