good,cheap tires for mud,snow?
not sure if this is the right forum or not,but it is 4x4 related. It is for my 92 jeep cherokee.I need a more agressive tire for snow and mud driving. this vehicle is not off-roaded a lot, just snow on the streets and mud when hunting. i do not have the money for two sets of tires, the tires I buy will have to be used year round. thanks,Ben

I just took my x-terrains off my truck...didnt like them at all in the snow. They were 285/75 r16 (33x11.5), my cousin said his were good in the snow when they were new....but my own experience with them was very terrible, I took them off the day after the first snow. They were great in the muck tho.
The GY's I have on now are awsome on snow/ice.

yeah, i had the X-terrains on my 2000 F350 crew cab long bed with a powerstroke and 6 speed- and let me tell ya little story about heavy trucks and 35x12.50 inch x-terrains...you ever hear about the titanic sinking? lol they seem to work really well on the light weight cherokee's though, I know a few others that run em around here.. course, we usually get snow that's a little wet and heavier- that may make a difference as well..

Wild Country XTX (it is a AT tire). Not a mud tire, but, can handle some mud, would be good in other conditions such as snow and ice. I believe it does have the * symbol. They are fairly cheap and I was surprised the abuse mine suffered on my 4x4 F-100 with a 390 pushing them while logging and towing without failure or a bad stuck. They did fairly good aired down.
If you have "real" snow and real mud and have to drive through deep stuff, I suggest the Cooper Discoverer SST. Might be off on the letters. It is the one that is studdable and is a real snow tire and has aggressive shoulder blocks with a siped middle tread. I put these on a plow truck and it did great. A lot cheaper then a BFG.
For 31s, both tires cost about $100.

My local store sells some 265/75R16 or 31x10.50R15 Baja M/Ts for $400 a set Mounted Balanced and all if you pay cash. Pretty decent tire too, and if they'd make them for a 17" rim, I'd make my dad get them too.
Kumho tire is a good tire too for pretty cheap.
Then there are always buckshots or mud brutes.

hummer take offs on ebay for $275 for 4
ya and those x-terrains are terrible. they are as useful as thornbirds. even on my dads light early bronco and aired down to 10psi they struggled where radial tires were doing fine. and they wore unevenly even after having the entire front axle rebuilt and aligned and all. i never wanna see one again!
