Hi,
I'm trying to find a good mud and snow tire.I don't really care if it rides great on the road or not. Something reasonably priced too. Any advice would be great.
A tire that is good for mud won't likely be good for the snow. Mud tires tend to be flotation type tires. A good snow tire is narrow to cut thru the snow.
BFG All Terrain T/A KO are quite popular among off road enthusiasts. As are General Grabber AT2 (a poor man's BFG AT). I have a set of BFG AT's on my Mazda 4x2....fair in snow, poor on ice.
Consumer Reports (Nov 2008) gave excellent ratings in snow traction to Kumho Road Venture AT KL78. Very good ratings in snow traction to Nitto Terra Grappler AT, Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor and General Grabber AT2. Off road activities like mud were not rated.
Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs and Firestone Destination A/T are other popular choices for an all terrain.
I just got a set of kelly safari tsr and have yet to try them in mud or extensive snow. we had some snow here already and was able to stop on a hill and get going again with no spin. I own a 2wd. was pretty imressed with that. I think they will work great, just havent put them to test yet. I got them siped as well.
