rhight low-beam headlight does not work on my 03 exp. changed bulb, still didnt work. no power at the h/l plug. checked fuses in the box under the hood, fuse is fine, but there is no juice at the fuse holder for that headlight. does anyone have experience w. this fuse box. it looks like it might split apart top to bottom by looking at the clips on the sides. i looked into the fuse holder w/ no juice and cant see any damage. dont know how everything else would work but this one fuse
I have had this problem on my 96 Explorer before. I did some research, I think it was here, and identified the problem and was able to fix it myself.
Inside the vehicle, under my center console just forward of the front seat coffee cup holders is a small black plastic box about the size of a cigarette package. It is a slight hassle but I removed this box and unplugged the wiring harness to it.
Opening the box you will find a small circuit board. Remove the circuit board and use a magnifying glass (easier with my old tired eyes) looking in the area where the harness connection meets the circuit board. More than likely, you will find a corroded or loosened connection.
I used one of those light weight solder guns like the Coleman cool touch (or whatever it is called) or a small hobby gun to resolder this joint. After doing so the right low beam will work again.
I have had to do this twice over the years...the first time with the hobby gun and the second time with the Coleman. I like the Coleman one (that runs on AA batteries) easier to use with a less chance to heating up the board too hot.
I will try to find this website again and post it here.
thanks for the info. i read the thread you linked, and searched some on the internet, but it sounds like its a little different than my explorer. i dont have any kind of message center or 'light out' indicator, so i dont know that i would have a lamp out module. do they all have this?
I can only guess so....the problem that you are experiencing is exactly the problem that I had, along with the process of checking the various options that may of been causing it.
I too do not receive any type of message center light out indicator, nothing to show that this was the problem. It was only this forum and the post that I shared with you that was the solution to my problem.
It was like deja vu reading your initial post. Check around and see if you have this module and where it is located.
