Yeah, I saw one of those reels on summit but they want 60 dollars for one.. seems a little steep to me, we'll see what happens with getting it all setup first.
Are you guys running 3/8 or 1/4 lines and fittings? Seems like the 1/4" fittings are going to be a lot easier to find, but one of the sites I was looking at said the 1/4 doesn't flow enough to run air tools. I'm pretty sure the compressor in my garage is 1/4" and runs the impact just fine..
well all of my fitting after the tank are all 1/4". i have run my impact off it several times with the truck in high idle and yes it will drain the tank quick, but as soon as you stop it is full again in short order. like when removing lug nuts and you move from wheel to wheel its enough time to recharge.
however the compressor does outrun the air valve! the compressor will finish int he middle of airing it up
I picked up all the hoses and fittings and ran all the lines and stuff, it works great. I just have to be careful and switch on the pump manually until I can get a pressure switch. Right now I have one quick connect under the hood right at the first "T" and one more at the very back where I put the tank. I didn't think I needed the pressure gauge or quick connect under the dash.
But, Grainger won't let me order unless I give them business info. anyone know where else I can get that pressure switch?
and where did you guys get your air horns?

got my p-switch from Northern Tool. also check out MSC industrial supply and fastenal. i have ordered from grainger many times and i just tell them i have my own personal company and bs the info. i have been to their stores before and bought stuff without a business account too
the gauge is handy to have but not necessary. i love having it in the cab so i can monitor my pressure from my seat and dont have to open the hood. when i finally put my PSD on bags i will want to know how much pressure is in them.
what do you guys think of running my frame rails, and frame structure as an air tank?
it's gonna be all 2X4 tubing, w/ 3" DOM round crossmembers, and X-Member.
it will also have a tube chassis around it. Weel Kinda....a roll cage welded to the body, all welded to the frame. will probly be like a 10-12 point maybe more cage. but everything will be welded, so the body can never come off again.
a lot of people that run the competition rigs..all tube chasis..use the tube frame for their "air storage tank" works great. My offroad truck i use a 10 gallon tank mounted to the rear floor with 1/4 inch fittings..the a/c pump fills the tank..have a pressure switch hooked up so it cuts on at 90 psi and off at 120psi. I'm able to run my impact gun perfectly and other small air tools. Just need to increase increase the idle when using it so it spins the pump faster to fill the tank better. All the pics of the tank to the pump can be found here.. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1.../BIIOBA004.jpg
I did see one guy when we were out hunting who had a sqaure tube back bumper that was his airtank. A pretty nice setup as long as your welding ability is good it should be no problem.
Real nice job on the OBA guys I have been looking to do this for a while.
Thanks
great thread guys! helps people like me get to know stuff. if you want some really loud air horns, go to a train wrecking yard, you can pick some up there for about $50 or so, and theyre worth it, have them on my Freightliner
Finally got my dad's business info and ordered the rest of the stuff from grainger. It should be here by monday, I'll post up some pictures of the finished product.
