I mainly hang out on the '87 - forum but since my F250 has a carb you guys may be better able to help. Don't usually have the belt on the air pump. Emissions check is due so when I put the belt back on the pump is seized (belt makes a heck of a screech). So how do I un-seize the pump? Take it off and slowly work the pulley back and forth? Disassemble and lubricate? The pump has markings indicating not to oil. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.
Agree with JimsRebel. Squirt WD40 in the air tube pipe (the output), and around the base of the pump body into the vent-like holes (the input), and work it back and forth until it spins free. I think the pump vanes just need to be able to slide up and down in their slots, and that's about it. Good luck!
Take the pump out of the truck and pull off the front pulley. On the back you'll find several bolts (three sticks in my mind). Remove the bolts and the back cover, then drive the pump impeller out the back by hitting the pully shaft with a rubber hammer. Clean it out, lube it, and put it back together. It'll be fine.
It says not to lubricate because they don't want you to gum up the impellers.
I lube with graphite powder through the inlet occasionally. (one of mine has been operational since 1987)
If it is frozen solid it could be the bearing or the impeller.
Disassembly is really the only way to tell.
Replacements are around $100 the last time I checked.
Thanks for all the replies. I figured it should come apart but it's nice to have some experience do the talking. What should I lube it with?
Also, do you all think that since my truck is a carbed '87 I would do better handing around here or is it back to the '87- onward crowd?
Thanks for all the replies. I went out to check and I forgot that there are 2(?) pumps; one above the other. I'm referring to the one directly above the alternator. There is a little bit of rust stain as if water leaked out of the back? HMMMM? I figured it should come apart but it's nice to have some experience do the talking. What should I lube it with?

I personally like the graphite suggestion that was posted. but I believe that one was still
turning, you'll probably need some sort of liquid penetrating oil or some such if yours is
frozen.......
BTW you can hang out here if you like, so long as there are people who know what you're
talking about and seem to be helpful to you (but that's your decision).
Thanks ctubutis. I love MOVE IT. It truly is amazing stuff so I'll try that. As for hang out here I presume the '86 and the '87 are pretty similar if they have a carb so I'll hang out here. But there is no way I'm going to wear a Bra!
my brother in law had a problem with one and he said he just pumped it full of oil and it unsiezed, i will be doing the same soon enough, i will not need emissions but i am pretty sure i will need it for the visual inspection
