I'm having the same darn issue .. brought it into the stealership 2 weeks ago, they attributed to a lower radiator hose (scratched my head and figured they know more bout it than me) .. sure enough the thing is still leaking from the same vicinity .. seeming to come right from the engine block. I'm bringing mine back in in the next day or so ...
BTW, I presume you are driving a PSD 6.0? That is what I have.
Is it coming down the back from the valley? There is a flexible coupler on the coolant line that runs under the turbo in the valley of the engine to the EGR cooler. It is prone to leaking when when it is cold out and the truck is warm. It doesn't bother when it is warm outside, but if it get towards freezing it will puke every night. It doesn't leak very much though.
jbullfrog is most likely right about the egr cooler hose leaking. its about all that will leak from rt rear of engine. it is a coolant hose, either orange or blue(newer), couple of inches long, roughly 1 1/5 inch in dia.
not real easy to see, look down below the rt/pass side of the turbo. under the turbo pedestal. this hose connects egr cooler coolant passage to engine oil cooler. might be easier to see with pass side cac/intercooler tube removed
the dealership should be aware of this hose leaking issue, it is somewhat common leak. maybe ask them to look there? can usually see residue from coolant even when warm and not leaking
I have been letting it weep slowly as it is not covered under the 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty and supposedly takes 6 hrs to fix. There was a threas in the 6.0 forum here that said it is 2-3hrs and you don't have to take anything off to get at it. It is supposed to be a twist lock coupler. I haven't added over a quart in 6 months, but it leaves a wet spot on the drive once in awhile.
I have the same leak passenger side behind the engine.leaks more if I remove the radiator cap.Seems like this hose is pretty elusive, might take awhile to find much less replace. Is there an easy way ?
is there a easy to fix the egr cooler hose? depends on how hard you think removing the turbo is. turbo and pedestal both have to be removed to access
hose. actually to fix it "by the book" the intake manifold has to be removed also
as to finding hose. as you are looking over frt of truck, might have to actually lay over radiator, look down to passenger side of turbo. look right behind the hot/pass side intercooler/cac tube. then look straight down and find the turbo pedestal. the egr cooler hose is half covered by this bracket. either orange or blue hose. will need a light. a extendable pocket mirror works nice to see underside of hose. usually leaks where hose connects to oil cooler, but can leak at either end.
Just Got A Call From Ford Dealer, I Had Dropped Off My Truck To Have The Coolant Leak Checked Out And You Guys Were Right On With The Egr Coolant Hose Diagnosis.luckily I Is Covered Under The 5 Yr 100000 Mile Warranty So I Consider It A $100.00 Well Spent.
Thanks For The Info ,this Is A Great Forum.
Norcal .. good to hear it is covered .. I'm about to lock horns with my "stealer" re: a fix he purported made to the lower radiator hose (replaced for $250) that dealt with the problem a week or so ago per my earlier post .. I just checked under the truck and sure as s--t it is leaking quite a bit ... it sounds like this is the EGR cooler hose and should have been covered via warranty ..
