What is the proper Fuel Filter Line Tool Size???

What is the proper Fuel Filter Line Tool Size???

I bought one that says "Ford Fuel & A/C Line Spring Coupling Tool" Performance Tool p/n W83113. It has sizes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2", and 3/8".

None of them fit inside the fitting to release the hoses. Am I doing something wrong? Am I an idiot? Do I have the wrong size tool?

This is for a V10 SD. I did post in the V10 forum, but there is not much traffic there.

I won't comment on the size of your tool or being an idiot...

The fuel filter should come off with the 3/8" fitting. Depending on dirt & grime inside the fuel line connector, it can be VERY difficult to get the spring to release. Maybe spray a little WD-40 in there to clean it out. Also, don't forget to remove the safety clips that hold the line to the filter!

Try this:

Put the tool all the way in the fitting, then push both the line and the tool toward the filter and then back them both out. That always works for me.

Thanks for the replies.....

The 3/8" wouldn't fit inside the coupling, I guess it's the 5/16" that this particular tool (don't even go there) doesn't have.

Sorry about that... I just went out the shop and looked at the el-cheapo plastic kit I bought in 1993. The release tool is 5/16".

Thanks all!

I exchanged the tool I bought for one with 3/8" & 5/16". Now all I need is time to replace the filter.

Happy Holidays!
