hi guys. 2000 3.0 *flex-fuel* here. i was changing the fuel filter last weekend and ran into some problems. first of all, the part number of the one on my truck is Motorcraft FG-1002. It is 2 lines in, 1 line out. My dad has 2000 4.0 (obviously non flex-fuel) and his fuel filter was the same part number. They are both original. Anyway, I was calling around to try to get the same part number and some places said their info called for Motorcraft FG-1033 and Ford dealership said Motorcraft FG-1071. I tried NAPA for Wix and it wasn't even the right one (it was one line in, one out). So I went to Ford and got Motorcraft FG-1071, which looks pretty much like the one I have.
Yes I have looked at previous posts about fuel filters and different people disagree about what part number is right and if flex-fuel is different.
So I have 2 questions. What do you 2000 Ranger owners have? and also there are these plastic clips that hold the fuel lines onto the fuel filter. Well these just busted right off and the replacement fuel filter did not come with these new clips. Has anyone successfully found replacement clips and has anyone changed the fuel filter and how did it go and what part numbers?
I guess I am looking for all info about 2000 fuel filter and replacement and fuel line clips, especially 3.0 flex-fuel. As much as it sucks at least I don't have the fuel fittings that need the special tool (1999 and earlier I think). Thanks guys.
I'm interested in an answer here specifically on the ffv filter. I asked my mechanic to change mine when it was in for some other work. He said he didn't think it needed changed, but also that it was part of some other assembly that made it different from other cars. Wish I had paid attention but I just shrugged my shoulders at the time.
Parts store and dealer will have the clips you need...If you
buy Wix filter it will comes with clips.. mine did..and your
lucky to have all clips.. mine has two clips and one fitting.
yeah on mine two of the three connections are white clips that I had to bust off to remove. I found replacements for those at O'Reilly's. The third one has this green ring that I can't figure out. I know that it is not the same as the fittings that need the special tool, because I saw that in the fuel line up by the engine and it looks exactly like the picture in the Haynes manual. but this green ring is confusing me. this fuel filter is way more complicated than it should be.
I got the 2.5 engine and on mine I got the white clip on the
engine side and on the gas tank side I got the clip on the frame
side and the special tool on the inside. Its the same special
tool that you need to remove it. I can't remember if it has a green
ring around it or not. (you need the special tool)
It was a pain when I first change mine. I was trying to put the
special tool in the fitting with white clip and that thing wouldn't
even move.It took me 10 to 15 min. to figure it out LOL. I broke
the two white clips and I thought I really did scewed up.
Why in the world would they make these filters this way is
beyond me.They can't make these filters with ALL clips or ALL
fitting,is that so hard.
