whodatt,

No ill effects from using the SEIC wire, which will lock up the torque converter when applied, even though you have no PTO installed.

Use either method you want, i am assuming you are only wanting the high idle mod to prevent wet stacking and coking from extended idling.

I tried both and settled on the BCP wire because using the PTO wire the rpm would jump to 1200 instantly. With the bcp it is a nice gradual increase to 1200.

My new truck automatically ups the idle to around 1000rpm after it idles for a little over a minute. Should I still do this mod and use it instead? Is wet stacking an issue in the summer, when my truck won't automatically raise it's idle?

Beerstalker,

Yes still do the "High Idle Mod". The automatic idle elevation your truck is doing now is part of the "Cold Idle Strategy" that kicks in when the truck is cold. The high idle mod is used anytime the truck will idle for extended periods (longer than 5-minutes) to prevent wet stacking etc. When idleing for extended periods you want to use the high idle mod, no matter what the outside ambient temperature is, as wet stacking can occur at any ambient temperature, do to the fact that diesel engines cool down when low idleing.

Also FYI if you don't need to idle the truck for long periods you are better off shutting the engine off. Idleing wastes fuel, is harder on the egr system etc.

Hope this helps

so heres a quick question, if you are trying to cool down after a hard pull on a hot day, should you use the high idle or just let her sit at low idle for 5 or so min?

I would just let it idle normally. Unless you have modded your truck with a tuner you should not have to worry much about trying to cool the turbo anyway.

I wouldn't use the high-idle for cooling the turbo. If you listen carefully, you can hear the turbo spool-up quite a bit during high-idle, which means you are heating up the bearings.
