hey all
I'm pretty much a newbie to this site, your #1 for knowledge of ford trucks ! I recently bought a 51 f1 that I am putting back together I got it without the windshield installed ,I noticed that there are four clips two on top and two in the bottom channel around the windshield opening,
what are they for and how do you use them ?
I cut the tabs off, they are there to hold the glass in but really not much use and the manual tells you to cut them off if you are using the stainless trim from a Five Star cab.
BTW, since you are a newbie to old trucks you really need to get a shop manual, they show up on eBay every week and sell for around $15-20 bucks. You can't work on these trucks without one.
I broke a windshield because I didn't bend the tabs enough, that's why I cut them off. The rubber holds the window in, I really don't think the metal tabs do much. The stainless trim doesn't do anything to hold the window in and the instructions say to cut them off if using the trim piece.
I wonder if they were deleted for '52, I spent a lot of time on my windshield flange and there was no sign of anything having been there. Sounds like it is just as well they aren't there! I don't have the SS trim, I have the standard cab.
Thanks guys
Cut the tabs out, tried the new glass for fit ended up grinding both bottom corners 1/4 " it slipped in after a hour of pounding on it , overall not as bad as i though !
Thanks Again !
Dave
