I went to tint my windshield on my F-150 04 XLT and the guy was not able to tint it because of some little bubbles my windshield has, right above my rear view mirror. It looks like if it was a sticker but its not. I think it is part of the windshield, I think all the new modules have them. This guy is not a rookie (tinting) and he tried twice to do it but the tint would continue to fall from the upper part of the windshield. Has anyone had this problem? If so is there a solution? I am in Florida and its really hot so I want the windshield tinted.
Windshield Tinting? Is that legal? Up here in MI the troopers would be on us like white on rice for having the FRONT windows tinted! You'd think a tint would cause issues during the night hours...
I think that if you look on the top of the windshield you should see to small lines on either side, that should be the "legal" limit that you can tint down to.
dont know about the bumps, go check out some other trucks that are around and see if they have them. tintins the windshields ok in some areas, i wish i could do that. dark windows all around would look awesome on something black.

Pretty sure that if you are in Texas, you can go down 6". I have done it before, but no room on this truck
I have those bubbles on the windshield in front of the rear view mirror as well. I would think that he could cut the tint around the bubbles. I have been thinking about getting my windshield tinted (the top 3", which is all that is allowed here in Ohio), but now that you mention those bubbles, I don't know how it would look if he was to cut the tint around it. If you do get it done like this, please post pics so that we can see how it looks.

Along with the windshield in michigan, you can't have the front driver or passenger windows tinted unless you have a medical prescription from a doctor (skin cancer, etc.). This is for officer safety concerns during traffic stops.

Actually, we are allowed the top 3-4" of the front driver/passenger windows... but that just looks stupid - thanks Congressmen!

The bubbles that you are talking about are called dot matrix.
The dot matrix can be tinted over with the proper prep but the tint will not look that great over the dot matrix.Have the installer trim around the dot matrix.
Cellman4u's right about the Dot-Matrix. My 03 mustang had them outlining the rear hatch. In order for my installer to equip my stang with the illegal but highly sought after "limo" tint, he had to wet-sand the dots down. He actually had left a couple of sheets of extra-fine grit in the rear seat compartment. Only problem you'll run into is that eventually it will lose it's grip and some people have actually had their "dots" turn a rust-brown color.
You are best to cut around the dots. Also you can, in most states tint down to the "A" line which there are two small lines on both sides of the windshield a few inches down. I believe it is marked AS1 meaning "A" line.
