Im building a 302 for my 89 f150. Will somone with a similar built engine let me know what problems i might run into when getting my engine tuned to run. Here is what I have done to the engine. Roller block 302, thumper heads, nx264hr comp cam (114 cl 212 int dur .050 512 lift), edelbrock performer intake, roller rockers, 9.5 compression, stock injectors, fuel pressure reg, 65mm tb. I know that i will probly need to change to mass air, but am I over looking anything? I want this install to go as smooth as possible. Plus if anyone has done a similar build how did they like the performance? Any info would help, thanks for listening.
Sounds like a nice set up, let us know how it goes. I'm assuming the cam is a XE264HR (not nx). I remember a magazine article where they used that cam with unported E7's and made 306hp and 342tq with a carb. I'm not certain what were "stock" injectors for 89 (14lbs or 19lbs) But I think 19lb injectors are maxed out at around 300hp. Get some more opinions, but 24lb injectors and mass air conversion would'nt be a bad idea, if your making that much power. If you go with 24lb injectors, you'll need a MAF sensor calibrated for the bigger injectors as well.
yes I have bene wondering about the injectors. That leads to another question though. I have a set of injectors out of a crown vic. They are 19lbs injectors and are the same size and shape of the oem ones out of my truck. I heard that these are a good upgrade because of the different style of pintle. The oem injectors have one pintle where the newer ones have four holes which the fuel sprays from. The resistance is the same on both injectors as well. Thanks for responding!
I have the newer style for my build up also. I don't think they flow any more, they just have an improved spray pattern that atomizes the fuel better. That's my understanding at least.
not nit picking but my cam is nx264hr (nitrus hp 264 hr) but 306 hp and 342trq are decent numbers. I think I will look into the 24lbs injectors I would want to starve my engine!
