I have an '06 F350 w/built-in brake controller and I had a 5th wheel plug mounted in bed, when I pull the 5th wheel, the trailer disconnected message goes on and off continuously. I replaced both plugs, in trailer and bed, checked the wiring underneath truck, however still getting the trailer disconnected message. Anybody else had or have this same situation? Need answer(s).
I have the same problem with my 5ther but I agree with "Stud" that it is more than likely your trailer. Once winter leaves me and summer is back I will tear mine down to figure it out. Side Note: I have noticed that certain plugs just plain dont seem to stay tight in the factory plug.
I had to rewire several of my trailers after I bought my 05, I didn't even know anything was wrong with them. It's always been something small, like a wire grounding out ect...
As the other have stated it is more than likely in your trailer wiring. The Factory installed TBC is very sophisticated and computer controlled. This controler will find problems that other controllers won't tell you about. More than likely you have a loose or bad ground connection on your trailer somewhere.
Get out your manual and read thru the section on the controller as it will explain the functions and messages in more detail.

In addition to verifying the 5th's wiring, likely problem as others have noted, always make sure you have a solid, clean connection. Get a spay can of terminal cleaner and spray both sides prior to connecting. I have used this for years on our campers. The integrated brake controller is great at warning me when the connection is lose or not clean. Don't use any type of terminal grease, as it will trap dirt.
I assume everything works, but just gives the warning? If everything is functional, check the ground wiring first. Could be getting ground through the 5th, but not steady enough to keep the warning from sounding.
