Trailer disconnected warning

Has anyone experienced the trailer disconnected warning while towing and everything still being OK? I tow a 5th wheel camper and occassionally this happens. There is no pattern to when it will occur and everything is always working OK. I didn't have any problems like this with the previous truck I used to pull this trailer.

Do you have a second plug socket in the bed of the truck? Had a similar issue on mine and it was neither of the outlets, rather the connector that the bumper socket actually plugged into - behind the hitch.

Mohle, yes I do have one in the bed. I am using a wiring harnes that comes factory made (not Ford) that connects the two plugs together (bumper & bed plugs). It was recommended during the 5th wheel hitch installation to ensure proper working of the factory brake control. I'll check it first chance I get. It'll be probably three weeks before I get to go out with the camper again. I'll post when I get some results.

Your welcome, hope some of these ideas help out. Intermittent electrical problems can be extremely frustrating problems to resolve. I had a similar problem and it turned out that I had an intermittent short in the brake wiring on my trailer. Fortunately the damaged wiring was visible, however if this had been in a hidden location it could have gone undiagnosed for a long time.

Good luck

Exact same setup that I've got. It's where the aftermarket harness plugs the two together. When I pinched the connector together everything worked fine. Had to replace mine in the end.
