This got me thinking about the 46 panel out near here and Morris mentioning of a 4x4 frame. We could drop the 46 panel on that 4x4 frame and use the panel sides to paint our Man/ sask. Chapter logo on it. That would be great.
Why stop at one or two, lets not get ahead of ourselves though, but that is the point of a club, Remeber these may just be "flagships" but just think how many we could start doing if they are going good.
It's fine if the 46 panel seems like a better project I got all the parts I nedd for my grain truck I can fix her up good and still put a banner on it for cruise weekend.
Nathan, think you can do the panel frame swap in 90 days with your busy schedule?
If you can I`m willing to donate the 4X4 frame, we`d have to find out the cost of the panel.
If I emeber right your transfer case was cracked. I have one that might fit I don't know if it was from Ford Chevy or Dodge but the vehichle had Dana axles.
Your right, I forgot about that. Since I have no plans for it I never did check around for a case. Possibly this one could be welded up but I`m not sure about that.
I could get it done. I did mine in 2 months and I could do it faster since I know what to do now. As long as there is plenty of good steel around. There will be costs though like a shortened rear driveshaft as it will be going from a 131" to 114", a radiator for the 360 and a clutch and pedal assembly from a '67-72 truck (I guess I could use the one out of the towtruck). The brakes will probably take some work as they haven't been used in awhile.
Only a Ford transfercase will bolt on, you might be able to use some parts from other ones. I think we could leave it alone for now as it will be fine if it's out of gear.
Be a little tricky to lift the panel body of the original frame with the bobcat. I would need both frames side by side in Fomoko's shop to make sure everything will fit correctly. The 46 will also sit higher than my 51 because I don't have the frame length to cut out the hump and it will require less sheetmetal modifications. Plus it will fit the big 31" tires better.
I can also use Fomoko's digital camera to keep track of progress and make another tech article.
We need to find out the cost of the panel, looks like the rest may fall into place. I have sent a pm to Glen to see what/how soon he can find out the price and condition.
It shouldn`t be much of a problem lifting the panel off with the Bobcat, two slings and some personal to balance it will work fine.
Snowking, I hope you do stay on board.
This may not even work out till the price/condtition is known on the panel. If it`s a go then it will take all the help that can be found, it will be a big project.
