1996 f250 PSD oil leak question
hi.
i am the recent new owner of 1996 f250 7.3L
135k miles auto 2wd. florida truck.
i have a small oil leak dripoping from the center of the torque connverter/flywheel cover. im belieleving the leak to be coming from what im guessing is a rear main seal? am i correct in thinking this?
how hard is it to do this? would i unbot the tranny and jack up the tranny to get outa the way or is it more invoilved than that?
this is my first time owning a big diesel. my wife drives a TDI jetta and ive driven E350 and F450 at my previous jobs for long times.
any ideas aprecciated. thanks
mike

Dry the valley out with paper towels and a long screwdriver. Start it up and check fuel pump weep hole. Its under pump use small inspection mirror. Also if pump is not leaking check plugs in HP oil rail on ends of heads, also could be o rings on turbo pedistal. Everything seems to run down back of engine and indicate a rear seal which is usually not the problem. Jeep1947

I had all of the above leaks, did the rear main seal, pedistal O rings, and a few O rings on the head. Stays dry most of the time but when I pull my 5er on a real hard hill it will leak some out on the ground. Its a mistery to me. I'll dry up the valley and then it won't leak. I can't figure it out.

make sure its engine oil first. if engine oil it is probably coming from up top and running down.
fuel leaks will wash down the valley pan and pick up dirt and some oil on the way to the bottom.
the main seals are pretty tuff on the engines and do require lots of labor to replace them.
I'd look at the topside first to determine the starting point of the leak. There are crossover lines, turbo pedastal seals to look at first.
