I have a 95 Explorer V6 (high mileage) and the code reads that I have a bad EGR valve. The problem is that I can not remove the nut on the exhause side of the EGR valve. I have soaked it for days with Liquid Wrench, PBS Blaster, etc. Any suggestions on how to remove this stubborn pipe. Thanks Friends !!!
Sounds like your right on track, we did the same thing on our 96 explorer. It was hours later that we realized when we took the 2 bolts off the egr and Then tried getting the nut off, that we had unknowingly taken away all leverage (we almost broke the pipe it sits on lol) so we put the bolts back in tight, grabbed a 1inch open end and it worked great using the leverage of the bolts being in. Good Luck.btw that's not what you did is it?
Are you certain the valve itself is the culprit? A code by itself usually isn't enough to fully diagnose a problem. I don't know how many people have posted this same kind of thing only to find out after changing the EGR valve that the DPFE sensor was actually the problem. If you're certain the valve is at fault, then proceed. If all you've done is pulled a code and assumed the valve is the cause of that code, you might consider spending your energy determining if the valve is really at fault. You might be able to avoid removing the valve.
Excellent point mrshorty, I just went through that with the 96 explorer and after replacing the egr she still coded "egr insufficient" and "egr excessive" this lead me tothink that perhaps if you getting Both codes, to start by replacing the dpfe first--that and it's a helluva lot easier! lol btw I replaced the dpfe and the cel has stayed off now for 6 days--a new record in the 4 years I've had her.
