starting problems
what oil pump are we talking about?
our trucks have 2.
one low pressure gearator(sp) for all of the motor which also supplies the hpop(high pressure oil pump) which then supplies the injectors.
i am sorry but i dont think you just shut your truck off one day. then went to start it and it wouldnt fire and now the shop is telling you to buy a new oil pump.
this would be a new one for me.
let me re read this whole thread and see what i can come up with. i wouldnt let them change anything just yet if i where you!!!!
ok so what i gather here is
you have brand new batteries
you have a brand new starter
you have a brand new cps and have tried your old one?
you have no smoke from the pipe
answer these questions for me please
1. does your truck have a chip or programmer installed?
2. have you opened the fuel filter up and ensured its full?
2.5 have you tried switching tanks?
3. have you drained the fuel filter bowl and filled it with some diesel kleen?
4. does the volt meter on your dash drop almost to the 8 when you turn the key on?
5. did your truck run fine just before you shut it down?
6. have you ensured the hpop is full?
6.5 have you ensured the ipr is plugged in still?
7. have you tried to plug in the block heater and start it?
8. have you tried jumping the two big terminals on the gpr?
9. is it cold where you live?
10. have you tried to pull any codes?
11. have you tried another IDM (injector driver module)?
12. have you asked to see if anyone on here lives close to you?
13. where do you live?
14. have you tried a buzz test? (the first thing it will buzz is the idm in the test)
15. have you tried plumbing a gauge into an empty plug hole on your hpo rail?
16. have you checked the crankcase oil level?
17.is this a diesel shop experienced in working on powerstrokes?
18. will they refund you your $$$ when they replace your oil pump and the truck doesnt start?
19. what if they already got your truck to start and want to rip you off?
i would ask them exactly why the oil pump needs to be replaced and see what they say. dont let them know our trucks have 2 and see if they tell you what exactly it needs. get where i am coming from.
20. tried swapping relay's 1&2 with 3&4 under the hood in the fuse box?
it could be as easy as them letting it sit in there warm shop for a few hours helped it start with your possible faulty gp system.
best of luck
sorry boss incase you didnt notice i dont approve of shops working on my stuff. i have read lots o horror stories on here.
i have never paid for any service to any of my vehicles i probably never will. if i am to old to wrench i am to old to drive
