I currently have manual windows and locks in my 2000 F-150 Ext cab 4.6L. I would like to get power windows and locks installed. How hard would this be to get done and does anyone know of a good place that can do it (such as a Ziebart, etc.)?
No, but I've seen Bruce Bonebrake do it on weekend mechanic. Didn't look very difficult. If you are okay with taking off the door panel and are fairly handy, seems pretty straight forward. I'd do it, and I'm not ASE certified! I actually put in my own remote starter, which also controls door locks. Which is pretty easy also.
I would suspect that the wiring is already in the main harness, it was on my '94. Remove the right kick panel and verify that there is a "group" of plugs on a bracket there, half plugs I should say. (There will be the same thing behind the left kick panel. Follow the speaker wiring from your door, theyll all be right together) If so just gig the window regulators and locks from a damaged door at your local salvage yard, bolt/rivet them in and plug them up. There may be a minimum of wiring connection needed at the fuse panel and/or relay center. Get a good FORD wiring diagram and go to it. This is a photo of the 91 donor left kick panel wiring that my 94 power doors came from.
