Check the fuse and the brake light switch on the master cylinder. I had the same problem and it turned out to be a bad brake light switch.

Just curious if your truck was part of the recall for speed control switch?

Mine was part of the recall so his should be.

Take it to a dealer and have them do the recall fix. Could be that the harness is about to fry. The main part of the recall was that the CC would quit working then it would catch fire even with the truck parked and off. Look at the plug on the front of your brake fluid resevoir and unplug it until you get it to the dealer for the recall fix. That could possibly cure your problem altogether. If not, then I would check fuses and connections.

Inop Cruise

Run, dont walk to the dealer. This should be covered in the recall. In the meantime, unplug the connector on the top of the master cyl. This is the infamous switch that has caused fires, even with it turned off and parked for a few hours.

been a while on this post
thanks to all for info......
-- dealer replaced harness per recall - didn't fix it - brake lights work fine but will check setting / switch - don't use it much due to driving style -

Could be a bad clock spring in the steering column.

Well, it could be a lot of things....

Bad SCDS switch/blown fuse link, clockspring, brake light switch, and the whole rest of the thing.

IIRC, the 2002 has a diagnostic built in.

Like was stated it could be many things. I had the recall taken care of on my 97 F150 last year and about a 1.5 months ago my cruise quit working. I checked the obvious the fuse under the dash, the fuse in the harness that was installed. I then looked at the switch on the master cylinder and it was wet. I went ahead and replaced it and my cruise has worked fine ever since.
