I agree it is a very soft metal. I have done the same thing. over tightened and then stripped it out. It is difficult to fix with the driveshaft in the way.
one more reason i need to add to my list of answers for
Dose anyone know the size of the threads on this plug and if it is standard, metric or pipe thread? The reason I ask is I was thinking of removing my plug and re pacing it with a small ball valve. Then it would be like the fumoto valve for your oil. For safety in addition to having the valve off I would put a plug in the open in. When it is time to drain just remove the plug and drain or to make a messy job a clean one after you remove the plug replace it with a hose barb fitting with a short piece of hose to drain in a container of choice.
My truck only has 7000 miles on it so I have not had to drain mine yet.
I really appreciate the timely information from you fellas. I tried removing mine this weekend and it did not want to budge but the hex is really sloppy. I soaked it with a little PB nut-buster and I'll try it in a day or so.
I stopped by my Int'l dealer at lunch today with the p/n given in this thread and they had one in stock, $14 and change after tax.
Thanks for the information, if I still have problems with removing my existing plug I liked the idea of using epoxy with the allen wrench........TBD.
Mine was stripped as well. Pulled off plate and gave it to a local retired guy who loves these kind of challanges. He got it out liked having all the guys over while doing it and I didn't have to throw one tool acrss the room. Patience for these things escapes me.
while plate was clean used my sticker machine and placed a " used correct wrench and do not over tighten or risk death by owner" sticker on it

While this seems like a good idea, it has been tried by several persons over the last few years without success. Seems the problem is that if you put something in the drain hole, pipe, fitting, valve, etc. the opening is constricted enough so that air can't get in while the fuel runs out and it takes forever to drain if it drains at all.

Thanks for the reply Barnbridge I knew their had to be a reason this was not being done because it seemed to simple of a fix for it not to be used.
