During colder temperatures (0 C or 32f) truck takes two or three (sometimes more) cycles of the glow plugs to start first thing in the morning. When I first got the truck it would start fine no matter what the temperature one year ago. I just had glow plugs replaced and the glow plug light goes on and off normally on the dash. Doesn't give anymore trouble for the rest of the day. The diesel I am using has been treated with antigell so thats not the problem. I just read about a glow plug relay and a heater relay in manifold? Also the truck smokes when cranking. Maybe batteries, but it spins over normally.
They wern't autolite GP's were they? The GPR and IAHR are between the pass side valve cover and the fuel filter housing.
You can check it with a Multi meter to confirm there is voltage going to the glow plugs with the key on.
then you will need to Ohm out the GP's through the VC connector to confirm they are in fact good
Your GP's could be bad again or the harnesses came loose. I just finished redoing mine. I had a shop replace the GPR and the GP's and one of the harnesses came loose right away. Took it back, the put a new harness, and then I still dident start in the cold. Turns out, they used autolite GP's and they craped out really fast. I put motorcraft in last weekend and Woah, what a difference! Definitaly check your GP's. I made the mistake of assuming they were good cause they were less than a year old.
