Exhaust help

Hi, i just recently bought my grandpas 88 ford F150, 5.0. I have an 82 F150 with glasspacks and its loud but with the 88 i want something that is as loud as possible without an ugly sound. Would anyone know what that is.

I had a 40 series Flowmaster 2 chamber, 3" in,dual 2.5" out, had a local shop bend some nice tails that came out between back tires and bumper, sounded really nice.

But was it loud? I want the exhaust to sound good but to be really loud as well.

A 2 chamber muffler is definitely going to be loud. Its the next step up from straight pipes.

I dont know if I'd go that far. I guess it depends on how far you're willing to push your luck. If you draw attention from the law, then you wasted your money.

If the truck still has a cat, or some kind of resonator, then you'd probably be ok. Otherwise, the 2 chamber are a good compromise.

Im running a strait through 3" magnaflow turndown and replaced the cats with a strait 3" tube on my '91 5.0. The truck is not unbearably loud but it does sound really good, nice rumble to it, and usually quiets out above 2500 rpm.

Go for the Bassani Y - pipe and you'll get great tone, along with 3" pipes.

We them here at Motorhaven: http://motorhaven.autoanything.com/exhausts-mufflers/61A2673A0A0.aspx?kc=MOTORH

flowmasters arent that loud except for the 10 series racing mufflers. Its hard to get a decent sound from a 5.0, but the loudest would be straight piped, or glasspack. As long as you got the full amount of pipe, it will sound decent enough.

on my 88f150 5.0 I have true dual 2.5" H pipe with 2 dynomax ultra flo welded mufflers. Has the straight pipe sound, but more controlled. Sounds sweet, and loud enough for me. I have the tailpipes kicked out behind the rear wheels with 12x4" chrome tips.

If you do get glasspacks or mufflers, have them as far forward as possible.

With the one chamber mufflers, i talked to a muffler shop and they said that the one chambered mufflers are baisically hollow. So would it be the same as running straight pipes or does the on chambered muffler do anything?

No, theres a big difference between straight piped and one chambers... The mufflers are still loud, but its a nice tone, not the blatty straight pipe sound. I donno if they're hollow, but mine is very small... I think its more wide than it is long..
