Really Loud

Ok I have an 88 F150 with the 5.0 V8 at the present moment i have manifolds running into one Hi Flow CAT then splitting off before my rear axle and no muffler. It is not super loud but it will stand its ground against my buddys Chevy 350 with straight pipes. My question is what would i have to do to get REAL sound. I want to do some modifications to this motor anyways and i wanted a list of everything i can do to make my exhaust LOUD? I would appretiate any help.

Headers and a flowmaster exhaust would make it nice and loud.

Check out the exhaust forum here for more ideas.

headers and true duals with no muffler or long tube headers and no exhaust after that. running no muffler and no cat is going to be loudest you can get

I run straight 2.5 off the mainfold. There's a 45º turn down that makes it come down basically on the rear axle (a little offset towards the front) and its plenty loud.

Get a set of headers, and then put an exhaust cut out after the headers, and then put a quieter exhaust on it after that, that way you got 2 systems in one exhaust, and one of them is the loudest you can get open headers.

True you will have to get rid of the cats(both cats), I had a 94 with a 5.8 and hollowed out rear cat 18 inch glass pack, and it wasn't loud at all(probably as loud as 70 or 80 series flowmaster), and it just hummed, it didn't snap crackler or pop, just hummed. I doubt this guys truck is as loud as open headers, not with a 40 series and pipes all the way out to the back, maybe a Flowmaster 10 series(racing muffler single chamber much louder than 40) dumped out not far after the cab. I would get good headers Gibson or Edelbrock, Gibson actually shows power gains of their exhaust header on 318 Dodge, 350 Chevy, and 351 Ford motors. Put a Y pipe to a cutout, then a high flow cat, and another Y pipe with a quiet(er) muffler, and nice tips(just for looks of course). That way you can be sneaky quiet when you want, and loud as hell when you want. Thats what I call true dual exhaust.

noise?

grow up. loud loud is , not cool. all things in moderation is better than roaring down the road with a sign on your truck that says you're another redneck ahole.

don't even think about it! I installed headers on my dad's 73 Chev stepside (350/350) and drove it to the muffler shop for install (about 10 miles) my ears were ringing by the time I was halfway there! I think I hit the resonant frequency of the cab at about 3000-3500 RPM and that was not pleasant.

I like a good sound, but not at the expense of my comfort. Taking the pipes straight back instead of off to the side lets you run a muffler with a nice tone without excessive noise inside the cab, I highly recommend it, and it looks mean from behind too.
