Straight 6 sound loud!
#2
Ya know, this comes up at least once a week.
There are a bunch of ways to make your truck sound like your neighbor's John Deere tractor but there's no way to get an inline 6 to sound cool without spending money.
Unless you're going to install a split header and true duals with mufflers (Smitty, Flowmaster), it will only sound like a tractor. Just the nature of the beast.
There is a video on YouTube of a '66 Falcon straight 6, split header and FlowMasters that sounds good.
Just my $0.02 USD worth.

More info
Here's that Falcon video:
I had a '66 Fairlane 2dr HT that had a Clifford header, 2" duals back to a pair of Turbo-style mufflers, then out to the back bumper. No crossover. It sounded real pleasant on the ears, moreso when I converted it from a C4 to a Dagenham 4-speed. A inline 6 will never sound like a V8 so you do have to keep that in mind.
Beauty is in the ear of the beholder.
Useless trivia: All '66-'67 Fairlanes were 5 lug and the 6 cylinder cars had an 8" rear. I even spotted a '67 6 cylinder wagon with a 9" rear in my home town. It was a 1 owner car so it was built that way.
