Sorry it took so long. This has been a real adventure. The truck has been in three times and they have replaced two injectors the first time. After getting it back it was running much better and shifting a lot better but I was still getting a miss for about 10-15 secs and still white smoke. The second time they updated the program so the fuel injectors would purge themselves after shutting the engine off. This came from Ford's techs. I had to take a week off because I needed the truck for deer camp and it still did the same thing up there. Took it in Wednesday and they had several codes, low turbo boost, an EGR code, and a map sensor code. The pinpoint checks said to replace the pcm. I just picked up the truck at 5 p.m. so I will have to give you another update after the 30 degree weather we are going to have this weekend.
Best of Luck WB. So far, I think have normal acting truck and can't take the time to take it in. Yesterday was 5F at 6am, so I left it unplugged and tried my experiment. I turned on the glow plugs and left them on for 2 minutes. I then fired up and saw a really small puff of white smoke. I idled for 3 minutes and left. The first few shifts I could hear and feel, but I go down the road for a bit and then up til I hit the main road. The shifting was smooth after a mile. I think this must be normal for the conditions.
At five degrees I would expect some performance issues if I did not plug my truck in. These problems are occurring at 40 degrees and is not considered normal. The truck is running considerably better than before we started diagnosing the problem. As long as I can get these issues while it is under warranty I will try to take advantage of it. I have only paid the deductible once since the problem is still being corrected.
I got the truck back from the dealership yesterday. They changed three injectors. It started fine this morning and seems to be running great. On a side note they did make me pay the $100 deductable.
They are currently replacing three more injectors and are keeping it over night so they can see how it runs. Supposed to be down to 15 degrees. I've only paid the $100 once since they are still working on the same issue.
