In my 2003 and 2005 6.0 I used 3 different tuners. Hypertech, Superchips and Edge Juice. All worked well and offered about 15-20% improvement in fuel economy.
Who has tried one of the current tuners on a 2008 6.4?? Did you see a similar gain????
I tow 6000 lb V Nose twin axle and have a 2008 6.4 SB Crew with 3.73 and get around 8.5, hand calculated. The old trucks towing with the same trailer got 12-13 MPG with any of the tuners installed.
I am a small business owner trying to keep costs down. I drive about 20,000 miles per year with the trailer. A 10% inprovement would help alot @ $3.50 per gallon.
i know a few guys that run the sct livewire setup and love it. dont know much about the others. id look into programmers that work with the transmission as part of their programming though, which the sct does.
I am running a hypertech on level three in my 6.4 I like it I get around 14 around town I do tow about 12 k regularly and my egts stay pretty norm the most while towing is 1250 thats on it hard I really want to try the ppe programer heard good things towing is aroung 10 to 11 at 60 mph and a lot of hills
I have the superchip too and did NOT notice an increase in fuel economy. F-350 crew cab 4x4 with 3.73 gears. Did notice a huge hesitation in the go peddel on long drives (300miles) with the tow performance tune installed.
So are you guys at all concerned with running a programmer? I really want to get one, but I'm still a little concerned that the dealer will void my warranty. Maybe it's just me, but my 6.4 feels like it has no ***** whatsoever. Trying to merge onto the highway the other day, I see a semi in my mirror a fairly good distance back so I get on it. My truck couldn't get out of its own way and the rig wouldn't slow down, i couldn't beat him and I ended up having to go into the breakdown lane to avoid a major disaster. I'd love to put an sct or something similar, but I love my warranty at the same time.
Its a chance ck with your dealer see what they say Just dont tune it extreame stay at medium tune I have been on the hypertech max energy tune level 3 wich is supposed to be a 114 hp tune Trucks been good so far and i dont generlly baby it
Im going to check with them this week. I think that I'll complain about the lack of power I'm feeling, they will check it, say no codes so everythings normal, the usual routine. Then I'll test the waters about the tuner, see how he reacts.
I am running the Edge Juice with Attitude monitor and stacking the SCT Extreme. I am very happy with the power! I have also noted improvements in fuel economy with the Juice with it on levels 1-3 (from11.2 to 12.3, always hand calculated and since new).but none in 4&5. When using SCT alone found improvement in "Tow" but none in "Performance" and obviously drop on "Extreme". When stacking I have not tried all combinations yet. As another note on the power, I have found an issue with the air box. When the restriction gauge is partially dowm the power seems reduced, not as bad as you describe but worth a look. When running the Juice on level 5 or the SCT on "Performance" or" Extreme" it will go all the way down after only one full throttle blast. Simply removing the cover takes care of this issue but i don't recommend it. I have an in house dyno and am anxious to prove this theory on the filter restriction and see how the stacking works.
I took my truck in with a problem of high idle after I set my truck back to stock for the dealer to look into. I went stock about 4-5 days prior and left it with them all day. I picked it up that night and asked what they had done; a new flash but couldn't find the idle issue. Never said anything about the SC or voided warrenty. I did ask if they would strip my exhaust and they said with a enough money and knowing it would void the warrenty they would do it. A bunch of sarcasim in the dealers voice.
Just my experience so far.

Thanks for this post. I checked my my air filter gauge and found it to be 3/4 down, or plugged. I have less than 6,000 miles on my truck so I checked the filter, like brand new. I reset the button and felt a considerable difference. Back to normal! I'm dropping it off at the dealer tomorrow to check this out and to swap out a foggy headlight. So, it seems like that little plastic gauge does have some correlation to power output. Thanks again for the heads up.
i have the superchips running on towhall with watter, meth inj i love the power the inj makes a huge diff over 8k on odom the air filter gage 3/4 out all the time it does seem to make a diff in power when out
