does any one know if i go to the bone yard and get f350 (soild axel) front and rear leaf springs can i put them into an f250 (split front axel) i.f.s. or whatever ford calls it. will this work does anyone know please let me know thanks
Yup. From what I have heard its really fairly easy too. I wish i could find a cheap dana 60 front axle. I think any thing from a 86 or so to 97 will swap in.
Thats a good question Bigbadwolfe. I read before about guys being unhappy with the sagging front springs on the 250. I bought my 97 new and there was NEVER any visable arch to the front springs, I just live with it. I dont have an answer for you but couldn't you just take some measurements off a 350 and your 250 and compare? If they are the same length & width I think they would work. How much stronger are the springs on the 350 anyway? Good luck I'll be watching this thread to see how you come out.
the springs are the same width, and the measurement eye-eye is the same. Just rip all the TTB crap off, pull the springs, get new bushings and stick the F350 springs in. Then bolt the axle to it....BUT the one thing you NEED that you didnt mention was the 'trac-bar'. It mounts to the bottom rear of the engine x member on the drivers side and extends down to the axle on the passenger side. It keeps axle movement left to right (side-side) down. You can run without it since its leaf spring, but the ride and handling will suck terribly.
and what I would do, I would take a leaf from your old F250 pack and add it to the F350 pack. Unless your pack is 3 leaf, off of a diesel. The extra leaf will level you out.
And a tip, poly bushing anywhere you can stick em in the suspension pieces will help your kidneys.
edit: I forgot to mention your rear blocks if stock are 2", youll want some 4" blocks in there. The F350s had to be lifted from factory to keep the front axle from hitting the engine x-member. So up went the back too.
If you want the to do just the springs, it will work, but you will definately have to have the front end aligned. Seriously though, if you can find a truck that has springs AND axle, i would definately reccomend doing the SAS (solid axle swap). The solid axle design is far superior to the ttb setup in terms of durability, and it is a strictly bolt in swap. I know because I have done it. For those guys that can't find a solid axle becuase of price or availibility, go to www dot car-parts dot com. I bought mine off off a truck in texas, had it drop shipped to my shop tt&l for $760.00. Came with the trac bar sway bar , the whole shebang minus the springs and was in great condition.
my post was about using the solid axle too, not just F350 springs.
To use the f350 springs and the F250 TTB arms, youll need drop brackets for the I beams.
from what i have heard the f-350 springs may lift the front but they are not as think as the f-250 springs and are not designed to handle the twisting motion the twin traction beam axle puts on it. The dana 60 swap is a great option if you have the cash. The rear springs are exactly the same. only difference is the blocks and the auxillary overlaod springs.
if you want to lift the front end just put an add-a-leaf spring in the front. I bought mine on e-bay for 80 bucks. worked great no need for drop brackets. lift the front and inch and half. When i was done i jsut did an alignment and good to go.
