What I have found somewhat funny is when I had my 03 Single Rear Wheel 6.0l powerstroke, I got an occasional ribbing (negative comment) from my Duramax or Cummins friends... Ever since I got the dually, not one anti-PSD comment from anyone. I guess size does matter
Its becuase they know with the Gear Ratio they know it will out pull both. I saw the specs in diesel power. They did the king ranch against the other two. The only thing i was kinda upset was they did a dyno and they all do a dyno at the crank. Its a big difference at the rear wheels
the trouble with the deeper gears is that it also means more rpm to run it down the road. It could be argued then that they run a deeper gearset to make up for a weaker engine... Got to watch out for that angle. The reason for the crank dyno is that it is more of a level playing field, as you noted, gear ratio helps make more torque to the ground, but by mechanical advantage, not engine power. You could put a 6:1 gear, and put more torque to the wheels, but it isn't feasable because it still has to go down the road.
To be honest I like all diesel trucks, i like the look of a ford, the sound of a dodge and well does chevy even make diesels anymore?? oh yah no one can tell cuz theyre so quiet lol. but yah every truck has its ups and downs, nothing in the world can and will be perfect. Gotta hand it to dodge though they make a mean diesel!
dodges are king because they have been around forever. I am sorry to say, but the powerstroke has weak connecting rods, and that is the starting point for all hp. The duramax can make sweet hp with just a turbo, and dual fuel pumps, one guy is really close to 700rwhp. that is barely touching the engine IMO.
Dodges won't be king for much longer unless this 6.7 has some serious advantages over the 5.9.
BTW most of the power now comes from who has the better computer programming. Right now, Efi Live is hard to beat.
I currently have a 500rwhp tune for a stock duramax on my computer that is plug and play that is hard to beat IMO.
I don't care what anyone says, I love the sound of the Cummins.
Yeah , the truth is that a Powerstroke will never be able to make the power a Cummins does, go to the Diesel truck pulls and Diesel drags and they are all dominated by Cummins. Very seldom do you see a Ford or Chevy.
these no doubt that the cummins is a powerhouse. the powerstroke can be just as powerful, even more, but it takes money. i was at a truck pull in Bloomsburg and there was a powerstroke, 7.3 liter, that pulled just as far as the cummins. its all about money with these trucks. if your not gunna have the truck just for truck pulls, i would go stroker or dmax. cause the cummins has ALOT of torque at low rpms, the powerstroke and dmax have them higher. imo i will always go ford, love the truck, engine and the sound of my 7.3

Never say never... it will come back to bite you in the butt... Just because it isn't popular doesn't mean it isn't doable, just that Cummins has been in the market longer with the aftermarket, and has the larger following due to being easy to turn up without having to deal with the electronics. Once they went electronic, they already had the aftermarket support and following to keep it strong. It's just like the Ford vs Chevy debates, it comes down to aftermarket support, not superior design. If that were the case, everyone should just run a Chevy and be done with it, but I don't see that happening. (Based on the analogy of more Cummins at the pulls and drags meaning the Cummins is more powerful... You tyically will find more Chevys at the drag strip or oval tracks than Fords...)

i think the main reason for that is the fact that we ford diesel buyers buy our truck to keep forever, not to beat the snot out of and then pass it off to someone else before it breaks.
