Maybe some here can chime in with their opinion. It seems to me that the powerstroke is really a hit or miss. Now i know that more people get on the internet to complain vs the thousands of people driving problem free out there. However, i just dont see as many engine failures and other issues with the cummins.
I am almost having buyers remorse, hoping that the new truck will be as realiable as my cummins. I have never had a powerstroke, because in my opinion theyve never made a diesel motor worth having...that is until the 6.7 came out. Several of my friends have the 6.7 PSD with zero problems, and i have really grown to love this motor.
I would have gotten another cummins, but ive driven all the body styles so they seem a bit dated to me.
Anyone here gone from the cummins to PSD and not looked back?

Ford Superduty truck sales are more than double Ram HD trucks, I wonder why? Ford may have more breakdowns just purely because they have an incredible amount of trucks on the road.
Are you almost out of warranty? Why would you be worried with about something like this after your purchase?
Dont even have my truck yet... being built this week. I guess im just nervous having never had a powerstroke. I needed a new truck as mine was a 2011 and was getting old, but ill feel stupid if i sold it for new one thats not near as reliable.
I went from a 2015 Cummins to a 2017 Power stroke.. Started seeing emission issues come up on the RAM and just did not feel like it was going to work itself out..
You read more gloom on forums than actual success stories so you really have to read through them and form your own opinion..
So far I am very please with my 17 SD.. A lot more power over the RAM not to mention just a better built truck..
This is just my .02 but I have had a 7.3 Powerstroke (still have it ) also had a 6.0 Powerstroke its long gone and had a 6.4 Powerstroke it is also gone. neither the 6.0 or the 6.4 were what I would call reliable in the least was always something with them. When i sold my 6.4 I bought a Dodge Ram with the 6.7 Cummins, and It has been rock solid no problems Zero.. I have put over 100k mile on it. I am a long time Ford owner in fact I still have 7. I look at the new ford trucks and think I would like to get back in a Ford but they still have "know problems", so i think I will keep my Ram for another 100 k and see how the new Fords do. Or maybe a Ford with a Cummins swap
I think all of the Big 3 are great trucks, overall. You could buy any one of them and have zero issues. You could also buy any one of them and have an absolute lemon. As such, I'm not sure dependability can be adequately defined or come to a meaningful conclusion. You just need to do your research about the pros and cons of each truck and then just make the best informed decision you can.

Here's an option. Stop reading the forums if they stress you out. I'd also recommend that you never visit webmd.com if you have a headache. Guaranteed you'll think you have a 9 inch tumor after 20 minutes. I look back at my 2011 and I had one failure, count that one, in the 6 plus years that I drove that amazing beast. A rubber hose on the CAC that cost $110 and 20 minutes to fix. But in that time there were ongoing prophecies of imminent high pressure fuel pump failure with predictions of anywhere between $10,000 to $15,000 to fix, exhaust valves that were guaranteed to fail requiring a new engine, glow plug tips that would crack and rattle around in the cylinder at any second (new engine required), turbo bearing that would turn to dust next Thursday (new turbo and potentially exhaust system), the forums even made me believe I'd sleepwalk one night and pour DEF in my gas tank and cause the aforementioned HPFP failure. On another vein, I should have died multiple fiery deaths by now each time taking out three school busses full of special needs children because I've towed overweight.
FTE and any other forum is going to have a lot of talk from many, many people most with good intentions and some without. We all have to sort through what is applicable to me. The sky will always be falling no matter what. It might take a little bit of energy to cut through the statistically insignificant crap to pick up the valuable gems of knowledge that actually increase the enjoyment and utility of our trucks. I frankly am glad that guys report troubles so I can be aware. I've read some posts and gone straight out in the garage to see if my transmission lines are leaking or my sliding console cover sticks (which it does). I'm a believer in preparing for probabilities and don't worry so much about statistically remote possibilities. There's more important things to stress over.

One thing to remember..... there are certain types of people out there that can have their Cummapart laying in pieces in boxes, but they still "never have had a problem with them" and for some odd reason Dodge/Cummins seems to attract them!!! And with modern electronics, I trust Ford WAAAAY more than I do Fiat! And it will be these issues that will most likely give the problems with any modern engine, whether it be gas or diesel, Ford, Dodge or GM!!
I had 160k On my 6.4 powerstroke when i traded it in on my new 17. Other than standard wear issues i didnt have any issues like some people talked about. I did routine maint. and did all the mods i wanted to it and it was a beast. I would routinely get on the forums and here nothing but horror stories about the 6.4 and it can make you feel as if you look at it wrong its blown. That is just not the case with these engines. I am an aircraft mech and i can promise you i have seen multi million doallar aircraft that are brand new have serious issues. If it is man made it will fail at some point. If 700 trucks out of the 100k sold have issuse and 20 of them get on here and fill the forum with problem stories that is all you will see. People come on here to find answers to problems if everything was perfect what would we talk about?

My good buddy is the buyer for the local power company. Today, Ford is what they buy. They still have some 2012+ cummins, but the Ford's have proven to be the most reliable diesel in their fleet. On top of this fact, he is a duramax driver and chevy fan
