What year? If we go by your name, I'm assumming it's an 87? 1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8 is the firing order. As for cylinder indentification, on the passenger side, front to back is 1,2,3,4. On the driver side, front to back, is 5,6,7,8. And if you are doing a teardown, pistons marked Z1 on the top go on the 5,6,7,8 (second bank) and the pistons marked Z2 go on the 1,2,3,4 side (bank 1.) Yes it is *** backwards by the way.
For future reference to anyone on here, the early 302's (pre 1994 I believe) and the 460 shared the same firing order (1,5,4,2,6,3,7,8.) I believe the later 302's shared the same firing order with the 351, which is 1,3,7,2,6,5,4,8. The 7.3 444 diesel's firing order is 1,2,7,3,4,5,6,8 (not that anyone here would need to know that for any reason.)
the problem is that i am swappin engines because i locked up the original engine and im not too sure what year the new engine is. it came out of a bronco but im not that sure that it was the original there. the person i bought the bronco from just didnt know.
Shouldn't there be VIN somewhere on the Bronco engine? Should be able to dump that into the Bronco forum (or this one) and someone should be able to get you a year based on the VIN.
I'll defer to others on just where the VIN stamp/plate would be located on that engine.
With these engines.... I believe they are behind the starter on the block. There should also be a sticker/tag on the intake plenum. This is a fuel injected engine.. right?
